The GSTN portal has just issued an advisory intimating that the GSTN has started archival of the return filing data on the GSTN portal.

We would like to bring an important update from the GSTN to your attention regarding the archival of GST returns data on the GST Portal.

The GSTN has initiated a monthly archival process for GST returns that are older than 7 years. This will have a significant impact on your ability to access past returns on the GST portal. Here are the key details:

  • Limited Data Availability: Under the GST portal data policy, returns will only be available for 7 years from the filing date. This means that returns older than 7 years will no longer be accessible on the portal.
  • Archival of Older Data: As of 1 August 2024, returns filed for July 2017 have already been archived. Similarly, on 1 September 2024, August 2017 returns were archived. The archival process will continue monthly, meaning that on 1 October 2024, returns for September 2017 will be archived, and so on.

Action Required

We recommend that you download any historical return data from the GST portal before it is archived for the months of September 2017 and the periods thereafter. This is especially important if you may need access to this data for audits, reconciliations, or any legal matters.

Given that the archival process has already started, with two months of data already archived, it is crucial to review and download your return history as soon as possible.
